Alamosa Parent Advocacy Group for Education (A-PAGE)

Article I – Mission and Purpose
Our mission is to partner with the Alamosa School District (ASD) to ensure education excellence for our children through adherence to board policies and procedures.

We will embrace and be guided by the ASD Core Belief of “a partnership of staff, students, family and community” in efforts to assist with communication between the school district and parents.


  • Embrace a positive attitude in working with the district and parents. 
  • Use existing and established district meetings to facilitate communication to the district from parents. 
  • Facilitate communication of information to parents through the use of the internet, newspapers, emails, etc.  
  • Act as a forum for parents to voice their concerns and advocate for the parent majority. 
  • Collaborate on solutions to problems and issues. 
  • Stay informed on regulations, mandates and budgets that affect district decisions. 
  • Foster an environment that allows open and honest communication.


Article II – A-PAGE Officers & Committee Members
Section 1 – Qualifications, Elections, Terms, and Numbers:
(a) Officers and Committee Members will be a parent/guardian of a child enrolled in the RE11J School District.
(b) Individuals must be nominated by an existing committee member and receive a majority vote from other committee members, in order to become a committee member.
(c) Election of officers will be held annually and shall consist of a chair, vice chair, and secretary, and may also, if deemed necessary, assistant vice chairs, secretaries and treasurer.
(d) A member must fill an officer position or committee position to remain on the A-PAGE Committee.
 1. Officers and Committee Members may hold two or more Committee Positions.
 2. A single committee position may be held by multiple committee members.
(e) Elections will consist of nominations for officer positions, and may be self nominated so long as there is a second. All committee members will then cast a single vote for each officer, beginning with the Chair.
(f) A member may be nominated to multiple officer positions, but may only serve in one.
(g) There will be no term of officers so long as they receive a majority vote during annual elections.
(h) Total members on the committee will not exceed 15.

Section 2 – Designation of Officers and Committee Positions:
(a) Officers:

  1. Chair – The Chair shall preside at the committee meetings and shall see that all orders and resolutions of the committee are carried into effect. The Chair will also be the spokesperson for the committee in reviewing all outgoing public communication to ensure that it is in line with the mission and goals.
  2. Vice Chair – The Vice Chair shall preside in the absence of the Chair and will provide any assistance deemed necessary by the Chair.
  3. Secretary – The Secretary will act under direction of the Chair and shall have custody and maintain all committee records. The Secretary will assist with the formulation of agendas and the following-up of assignments.

(b) Committee Positions:

  1. School Board Rep. – The School Board Rep. will attend School Board Meetings, take minutes, present any needed information to the board, and report back to the A-Page committee.
  2. District Accountability Rep. – The District Accountability Rep. will attend the District Accountability Meetings, take minutes, present any needed information to the accountability committee, and report back to the A-Page Committee.
  3. School Building Accountability Rep. - The School Building Accountability Rep. will attend one or more of the School Accountability Meetings, take minutes, present any needed information to the accountability committee, and report back to the A-Page Committee.
  4. Parent/Teacher Organization Rep. - The Parent/Teacher Organization Rep. will attend one or more of the PTO Meetings, take minutes, present any needed information to the PTO committee, and report back to the A-Page Committee.
  5. Blog/Web Administrator – The Blog/Web Administrator will maintain the A-PAGE Blog/Website and post any information approved by the committee.
  6. Additional committee positions may be formed as the need arises.

Section 3 – Resignations, Removals and Vacancies:
(a) Any officer or committee member may resign at any time by informing the officers of the committee.
(b) Any officer or committee member may be removed by a majority vote of the committee members, with or without cause.
(c) As vacancies arise, elections or assignments may be taken but must have the majority vote of the committee members.

Section 4 – Expectation of Officers and Committee Members:
(a) Officers and Committee Members will uphold the mission and goals by acting in a professional, friendly, positive, and inclusive manner.
(b) It is an expectation that all members will stay up to date on information provided from other committee members.
(c) All members of the committee must fill the role of either an officer or committee position.
(d) Being that A-PAGE speaks for the parent majority there may be initiatives that individual members wish to support; this is encouraged, but should not be done in the name of A-PAGE, without the consent of the committee.
(e) Time commitment requires the following:

  1. Attend Committee meetings.
  2. Attend School District and School Board meetings as assigned.
  3. Review School Board, Accountability Committee, and A-Page minutes, along with other disseminated material.
  4. Research and study pertinent laws and regulations.

Section 5 – Non-committee members
(a) Committee meetings are open to non-committee members, but they will not have the vote of a committee member.
(b) Non-committee members may speak at committee meetings when recognized by the Chair. They may be asked to provide information and feedback.
(c) When deemed necessary and to conduct committee business, the meeting may be closed to non-committee members.
(d) Any non-committee member may be asked to leave at any time with or without cause.

Article III – A-PAGE Members
Section 1 – Sign-up and Designation:
(a) To become an A-PAGE Member one must sign up on the A-PAGE web site: http://alamosapage.blogspot.com/
(b) A-Page members are to provide the following information:
1. Required:
i. First Name
ii. Last Name
iii. Email Address
2. Optional:
i. Address (Required for mailings)
ii. Phone #
3. A-Page members will also designate themselves as one of the following:
i. Parent/Guardian – indicating # of children in the district
ii. Student
iii. Grandparent
iv. Community Member

Section 2 – Expectation as an A-PAGE Members:
(a) Members of A-PAGE are the supporting backbone of the committee and as such will receive additional information that is not posted to the A-PAGE Community. This includes but is not limited to: emails, newsletters, & mailings.
(b) A-PAGE members will periodically be polled for input and suggestions.
(c) A-PAGE members may be asked to endorse important initiatives, but are not obligated.
(d) A-PAGE members may attend committee meetings but may not vote and can only speak when recognized by the Chair. If deemed necessary a member may be asked to leave with or without cause.
Section 3 – Removals:
(a) A-PAGE Members may decline their status as a member at any time by, unsubscribing at http://alamosapage.blogspot.com/
(b) An A-PAGE Member may be removed by a majority vote of the committee members, with or without cause.
Article IV – A-PAGE Community
Section 1 – Community Information:
